This blog started as a supplement for my Economics of Information course at MIT. However, it has expanded beyond that purpose and certainly should not be interpreted as official MIT views.
Since WSJ is a "must read" newspaper for all finance community the plan of charging 100$/year will probably be successful, at least in the beginning. However, how we have already seen in Britannica/Wikipedia example people tend to follow the line of the least resistance and switch to free sources of information. Therefore, to keep the image and role of "must read" source of information WSJ need to provide additional services, like social network for finance community, to prevent people from switching to free sources of information, like Bloomberg.
