Here is the latest - Twitter just gave $10M to the Media Lab to analyze every tweet and study it's social impact through visualizations. Very cool!

This blog started as a supplement for my Economics of Information course at MIT. However, it has expanded beyond that purpose and certainly should not be interpreted as official MIT views.
Data is just data before being analyzed. They have no intrinsic difference from a simple signal or code. MIT will be a critical intermediary to help Twitter to transform these data into information or even knowledge. However there are also some concerns about privacy problem in this situation.
